The Maritime Paper project in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, showcases custom commercial millwork designed to create a practical, organized, and welcoming workplace environment. Completed in 2025, the project included a custom kitchenette, sit-up bar, and recycling center, combining everyday functionality with a clean and cohesive design.
The custom kitchenette was designed to support employees throughout the workday while making efficient use of the available space. Custom cabinetry provides dedicated areas for food preparation, storage, and everyday essentials, helping keep the workplace organized and functional. By designing the millwork specifically for the space, the kitchenette integrates naturally into the surrounding environment rather than relying on standard cabinetry.
A sit-up bar was also incorporated into the project, creating a flexible area where employees can take a break, enjoy a meal, or connect with colleagues. The counter-height design provides an informal alternative to traditional seating while adding another useful feature to the workplace.
The project also includes a dedicated recycling center, providing an organized solution for waste separation and recycling. Integrating the recycling area into the overall millwork helps keep it accessible while maintaining a clean and professional appearance throughout the space.
The cabinetry features a combination of birch veneer and laminate, selected to provide a balance of natural character, durability, and practicality. Birch veneer adds warmth and visual texture to the millwork, while laminate provides a resilient surface suited to areas that experience frequent everyday use.
Together, the kitchenette, sit-up bar, and recycling center demonstrate how custom millwork can improve the functionality of a commercial environment while contributing to its overall appearance.
